Due to Covid-19 all sessions will be virtual until further notice.
"Somatic" means "pertaining to the body, as distinct from the soul, spirit, or mind". The state of your body at any given moment is the sum of its historical experiences and the way in which you relate to those experiences. Your body reveals more about your state of mind than conventional wisdom suggests. My job as a somatic coach is to bring to light patterns in your body that may or may not be serving you and amply or modify those patterns. Chronic pain or imbalanced posture frequently stems from subconscious beliefs or subconscious patterning that stem from previous life experiences.
A somatic coaching session will vary based on your individual needs. It may include breath work, gentle exercises, anatomical education, embodiment practices, or gentle hands-on corrections. Influences to the practice include the work of pioneers in the field including Bonnie Bainbridge-Cohen, Eric Franklin, Frederick Alexander, Joseph Pilates, Irmgard Bartenieff, and others.
When asked, "What is Pilates?" I've refined my response to: "The most intelligently designed means of exercise for functional strength, stability, and injury rehabilitation". While there are infinite ways to exercise or train your body for specific feats (many with great value), Pilates will give you the tools and means to mindfully train specific muscle groups from a myriad of positions to accommodate for injuries and/or increase stability and strength in new and varied planes.
A Pilates session will involve mindful breath work integrated with specific exercises catered to your individual needs. You will move through all planes of motion in your spine for a well rounded workout. Sessions can be catered to certain goals to highlight certain areas of the body. It is best to maintain a consistent practice with 1-3 Pilates sessions per week for best results.
Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by "the placing of hands or hands hovering over the body " and is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one's "life force energy" is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.
Each session is a collaboration between the client and the Reiki healer. Coming with an open mind and an open heart will allow for the most effective session. Each individual has a different experience. Many feel a deep sense of relief or peace. For some, memories, past traumas, or emotions may be brought to the surface. As the healer, I aim to provide a safe space and appropriate time for the client to process whatever is brought forth. Some clients choose to speak through their experience to best process the healing while others are silent during the duration of the session.
Many companies implement wellness initiatives for their employees. I am able to provide large group classes or workshops as well as private sessions for companies to help create a safe, healthy, and thriving work environment. Topics for workshops could include things like mindfulness practices, movement coaching, postural assessments, and more.
